Farwell May

Hello readers,

Today is the last day of May. It's been a good month, the Strokes at Cannes and their Jools Holland performance were awesome!!

Some of you might be familiar with the band The Arctic Monkeys. You may know them as "the British Strokes". In a recent interview with Alex Turner, the Arctic Monkeys frontman (who is also very hot!!), he mentioned the Strokes!
When asked Who were the songwriters that most influenced you? What did you grow up listening to?
Alex answered To be honest, The Strokes were really a big deal for us. That was a gateway to a lot of other music for me. There is always that one band that comes along when you are 14 or 15 years old that manages to hit you in just the right way and changes your whole perception of things. I don’t know what band is doing that for kids right now. 
Well Alex, for some, it's still the Strokes!

I'm wondering how many have you have ever noticed that in the "the End has no End" video, when Ryan Gentles is getting egged on to go ask Mila Kunis to dance, it's Julian and Nick who are egging him. Here's the proof!

 

Also, is that Matt Romano (the stand in drummer for Fab when he broke his hand on tour in 2001 and a good friend of the band) in the backround? In the green party hat. I feel like, yes!

Radical Randos

Today's post is all over the map - the AWESOME map!!!
Lets begin with an interview: Albert Hammond Jr seems to be putting the team (or band in this case I suppose) on his back with all the interviews. His latest one is super great and funny! Here's the link:

In other Albert news, the band the Postelles is about to realease an awesome album. It's already out on iTunes and is in stores June 7th. How does this have anything to do with Albert? He helped produce the album! The influence is obvious and fabulous. If you like Albert's solo stuff, definitely give them a listen.

Under control: "I don't want to waste your time"

Taken for a fool: "But you can't help them 'cause you don't have the time"
Call me back: "Wait time is the worst ... No one has the time"
12:51: "12:51 is the time my voice found the words I sought"

Some fun Stuff

Sadly, no reply from Ryan Gentles... yet! I haven't lost hope. I don't have too many brand new updates to give you, so this post will be a some older news that perhaps you didn't know about.  Along with some other random stuff.

I, for one, am extremely excited for this to happen: Julian Casablancas will be representing a cologne. The company Azzaro (you may know them from the Enrique Iglesias cologne ads) will be putting out a new product in September 2011 titled "Decibel" and they will be using Julian as the face of their new product. There will be more than just the spray too, expect deodorant, body wash and shampoo. THATS NOT EVEN THE BEST PART!!!  Julian will be writing a song to accompany the ad aswell!!  Julian Casablancas fans, get STROKED (get it? stoked, stroked?)


More Julian Casablancas news!! Yay!!! There will be a Buddy Holly tribute album called "Rave On" coming out June 28. Julian sings the title track. For those who haven't yet heard it, it's really good! Other artists on the album include The Black Keys, She & Him, Modest Mouse, Florence + the Machine, Paul McCartney, Lou Reed and many more. Best Day of my Life...So Far :)

I have some big news,
I talked to Ryan Gentles on the phone today!!!!!!

It was the most amazing 60 seconds of my life, even it consisted mostly of my screaming. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be to get a hold of him, I just called the hotel in Hollywood that he's staying at and asked to be connected with him. The conversation was incredible.  I flipped out when he said hello and just kept telling him i love you. He was laughing and saying thanks and I told him I love the Strokes and asked if anyone else was there; the answer was no. I had woken him up from his nap so I apologized and he said goodbye. I felt like such a stereotypical screaming-teenage-girl-fan. Feeling bad about being so irritating and not wanting Ryan to think I was an annoying fan, I called back and left a message with the front desk saying sorry I woke you up, I'm a huge Strokes fan, my name is Hannah and my phone number. Lets hope he calls back!!

Shout out to the women at the front desk of the hotel, You are so nice!!!! and my bud Rachel for giving me the name of the hotel there staying at :) and to my pal Celine for the idea of calling <3

Big Day for The Strokes

Hello readers,

Big News! Today the Strokes performed on Ellen!! The episode with their performance airs tuesday May 31. I thought the show was live so good thing I didn't buy tickets for the show on the 31st, not that there was much chance of me taking a trip to LA anyways (I live in Canada). It seems like they played Gratifaction as Albert Hammond Jr (the guitar player for the Strokes) tweeted " hope y'all are gratisfied by it." Attatched is a cool picture of the dudes backstage
On a side note in Strokes news, Richard Priest, the Strokes tour manager (you may know him as the narrator of the Strokes 2010 recording for the next album part 1) had his last day on the job today. We'll miss you Richard!
