Great Stuff

Hello readers,
For those unaware of this, Amanda de Cadenet (Nick Valensi's wife) is quite the pro twitterer. It's awesome really, she tweets like 20 times a day.
Anyways, today, she received a tweet from a fan saying Quick question I hope you can answer. What does your husband's tattoo say? to which she replied good jewish boys dont have tattoos
I got such a kick out of that! Not sure why, I just found it very funny

SO MUCH GREAT NEWS

Hello readers,
So there is a lot of news to tell today, lets begin with the minor (not that there is such thing as minor Strokes news) news and work our way up.
The Strokes played Hove Festival the day before yesterday and it appeared to be a big success. The setlist looked fairly familiar to other shows, excpet Trying My Luch and Meet me in the Bathroom were played. Here's the whole setlist
01. Is This It
02. Reptilia
03. Under Cover Of Darkness
04. Hard To Explain
05. Someday
06. Taken For A Fool
07. Trying Your Luck
08. You Only Live Once
09. You’re So Right
10. Whatever Happened
11. Gratisfication
12. Meet Me In The Bathroom
13. NYC Cops
14. Life Is Simple In The Moonlight
15. Juicebox
16. Last Nite
17. Under Control
18. Take It Or Leave It

Ok next, the song that shall be featured on Live From Nowhere Near You Vol.II has been revealed. It will be Mercy Mercy Me, a song with Julian Casablancas on vocals and Fab Moretti on drums aswell as Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam on vocals. Not a new song, or In Her Prime sadly, but still awesome. View more details about the whole album here

The Strokes made the spinner Best Songs of 2011 (So Far). Undercover of Darkness was listed as Number 12. View the whole list here. It's so cool and awesome that the band has been put on so many of these lists (best 2011 songs/albums so far) but of course not surprising ;-)

the Euro tour begins!

Hello readers,
The Stroke's European tour has begun! The band landed in Oslo (Norway) yesterday and were very twitterish. I'm not sure that's a word, but there were a lot of tweets from N_Fraiture, alberthammondjr, WizKidMgmt and even alberthammond!! (special guest appearance :) I definitely have some new favorite tweets as of yesterday, including Ryan's "it SHOULD be ready to go in about a week... lot of post-production to do." in reply to PaolaADL's  "When the Taken For A Fool music video comes out?" :D :D :D
Anyways, the band will be playing at the Hove Festival today. There doesn't appear to be a stream for people outside of Norway (you can try this if you're in Norway), but I'll keep you posted.
In other Strokes news, the lyrics to Two Kinds of Happiness has been posted on Julian Casablancas' website! AWESOME!!!! Check them out here. Is this a sign we can expect TKOH at today's show?
Here's a funny picture of Albert and Fab on the tourbus from Ryan via twitter

The Strokes make the top 50 best American Rock Bands of all Time List. DUH!

Hello readers,
It comes as no surprise that Gibson.com would pick the Strokes on their 'Top 50 best American Rock Bands of All Time' list. They made #43, impressive (I would've put them down as #1 but I didn't make the list.)
See the whole list here

They included a nice little description too:
If the music biz had a machine to manufacture millennial boho NYC guitar hipsters, it would undoubtedly spit out The Strokes. Yet the quintet are definitely for real: Fab Moretti has played drums since he was five, Albert Hammond Jr.’s father was a songwriter of note, Nick Valensi can be a dazzling soloist. Their debut Is This It (2001) is the must-have album, but The Strokes’ new wave smarts and intricate guitar interplay still seduce – with the eclectic brew of 2011’s Angles hitting dizzy heights. – Michael Leonard

I couldn't agree more Michael.

Update

Hello readers,
I have many new things to update you about.
First off, for those who were unaware, Binki Shapiro (Fabrizio Moretti's girlfriend) played a show with Adam Green (former Moldy Peach) at Kanon Organic Vodka's Midsummer Party.
Special guests included... Fab and Albert Hammond Jr!!!
Apparently Fab was defending Binki at the show, telling people to be quiet during the performance. AWWW!!! :) the story even made the NY Daily News Gossip Section. (read the article here)
Pictures:
Binki Shapiro and Adam Green
 Binki Shapiro and friends
We all know who this is...
Haha it's Albert Hammond Jr!
Fabrizio Moretti with an unknown female...

You can see more pictures from the event here

Enjoy!

the Strokes today

Hello readers,
Today we got a shout out from Albert Hammond Jr!! Well, not really but somewhat...
He tweeted today "Been in bed sick since Monday. Thank you WImbledon!! If I could go back in time I would've liked to have been a tennis player." And then followed that up with "At 31 I missed my prime." It's never too late Albert! and I hope you feel better soon! I got well excited upon seeing the word prime hehe
In other Strokes news,  numerous bands are contributing rare/unreleased songs to Kevin Moyer's 'Live From Nowhere Near You Vol.II', the Strokes being one of those bands. I'm REALLY hoping they submit 'In her Prime' because I mean, how AWESOME would that be! Or I guess some new material would be ok too... Joking obviously but I can't wait to see what track is put on the album!
Here's the link for the album pre order. There are some other pretty cool artists on the list along with the Strokes.

Q magazine are bitches

Hello readers,
So today I'm feeling mighty peeved on account of I bought this month's edition (June 2011) of Q magazine. The Arctic Monkeys made the cover, but other headings on the cover featured the Strokes. The headline featuring a quote by Julian: 'They'd Stab Me to Get to the Top' (in the actual interview he followed that with "I'm joking." but obviously they wouldn't pay that any attention.) and below it read "The Strokes, Their Most Explosive Interview Ever". I bought the thing and read the article on the bus ride back home. By the time I got off the bus, I was right well mad at  While the spread includes some great pictures, the whole thing is utter bullshit! They interviewed each member separately, and they all seemed well gentleman like. I was actually impressed at their politeness considering Q asks some pretty personnel questions. Obviously though, Q magazine must make them out to be total assholes. By the sounds of it, Julian had initially refused to partake in the interview but later reconsidered and decided to do a phone interview. The article gives the impression that Julian is a complete dickhead and the cause for all the problems in the band. The interview leaves readers thinking the Strokes are a band full of hatred and backstabbing.

Happy Fathers Day!

Hello readers,
For those unaware, today is father's day
Some of our favorite rock star dads have hopefully had an awesome day.
Julian Casablancas' with wife Juliet has a son Cal who's just over a year old (birthday March 5 as Julian wished him a Happy Birthday during the Strokes' SNL performance).
Nick Valensi's got a set of twins with wife Amanda de Cadenet aswell as a stepdaughter who is freaking hilarious on twitter.
Nikolai Fraiture may have kids, except for the knowlage of his wife Ilona, his family status is fairly vague. Niko tweeted "Overwhelmed by the Father's Day tweets!! Thank you! And Happy Father's Day to all the other Papas out there too!" today which leads us to believe he does in fact have kids.
Let's celebrate with some stellar pictures of these ggreat dads.

Julian tweeted this TODAY!!! Breaking news at it's finest

Julian and if you look close, baby Cal!

When we were young, oh man did we have fun...

Here is Nick being a model father

And here's an old one of Albert Hammond with Albert Hammond!!! (Junior and Senior)

And here is Julian Casablancas with his dad John.
Cutest. Baby. Ever.

Here's one of Nick's twins

Sadly there are no photos of Nikolai with his offspring but here's a great photo of him anyways.
Enjoy!

Azzaro News

Hello readers,

There has been a release of more information on the Azzaro fragrence Decibel (they're using Julian Casablancas in their campaign). There are some pictures floating around, and this artcile provides quite a bit of information. It is in french though
http://parfum-homme.prime-beaute.com/marque-parfum-homme/azzaro-decibel/2011

I was seriously hoping that the song Julian would write for the ad would be called Phragrences for the Young (as his solo album was titled Phrazes for the Young) but it appears the song will be called I Like the Night. Julian quotes "Everything starts with music". Seems like the ad will feature Julian and his fans becoming one and suddenly the singer surrenders himself to the crowd. It's all very corny sounding ("the artists lives for music and sharing it. he frees all his energy, his generosity...").

This is what I had more in mind for the ad!! <3

This one's also rumored to be part of the campagn, but I seriously doubt that

Julian News

Hello readers,
Today's post revolves around the Strokes frontman.
Some news has leaked out about the new Azzaro fragrence, Decibel which is using Julian Casablancas for their ad campaign. This picture is circling the internet, is it the real deal? I was hoping for a close up facial, like a super sexy portrait, but this doesn't seem too bad ;)

I lovve how the bottle is shaped like a microphone! Despite me being a girl, I may have to wear Decibel cologne. DFTS (Do It For The Strokes)

Also, Julian has shown up in the MTV Hot Dad of the Day.
http://style.mtv.com/2011/06/15/julian-casablancas-bonnaroo/
I fully agree :D

The Strokes Go to Broadway

Hello readers,
Yesterday was the opening night of Spiderman Turn Off the Dark, and some of our favorite rock stars attended. By proof of twitter, Nikolai was there ("We just got the dark turned off on us... but wow, some crazy stunts and incredible Broadway singing!" he tweeted with a picture of the promotional poster yesterday). And by proof of picture, Julian and Juliet were there!
Dam I wish I lived in New York...
Here's some pictures of Mr and Mrs Casablancas at the show

Justin Timerlake likes the Strokes

Hello readers,

In anticipation of his new movie, Friends with Benefits (also staring Mila Kunis from the End Has No End music video) Justin Timberlake did an interview with Playboy. It's a freaking long interview, but if you read the whole thing, you'll see that Justin reveals he likes the Strokes!!
Nice one JT, I might just have to go see your new movie :)

Bonnaroo show!

Hello readers,

Alright, after much frustration and file converting, here it is!

The Strokes Live Streamed Performance At Bonnaroo

Personal favorite quote of the evening:
"Take it or leave it. All over my face." MARRY ME JULIAN!!!
I also really liked it when he called Fab "Bra", and when he said "Yeehaw" in Gratisfaction.
And how much he thanked the crowd. Ace manners.

I had to split it into 3 parts as it's an hour long. Enjoy!

As long as there's a live stream, I'm OK with one-off festival performances :)

More Bonnaroo fun

Hello readers,
Since my computer is still being super dysfunctional in terms of letting me upload the Bonnaroo performance, I have some different fun stuff for you : INTERVIEWS!!! Yay!!

Here's one with Albert Hammond Jr and Nikolai Fraiture with Rolling Stone, it's a real gem.

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/blogs/festivals/watch-the-strokes-reveal-new-album-details-backstage-at-bonnaroo-20110612

And here's one just with Albert.

Can we hope for a US tour in the fall?  :)

I'll post the video of the show as soon as I'm able to!

Bonnaroo Awesomeness

Hello readers,

Yesterday, the Strokes played at Bonnaroo music festival. It was mind blowing.
Thank the lord for live streaming.
This was better than Coachella folks. Yes, that's correct. Better than COACHELLA!
IT WAS SO GREAT!!!! They sounded sooooo good!
They were headliners, so their performance was nice and long.
It was just that they were all in such a GOOD mood! Julian was hilarious, and all of them had so much energy!
They began with Is This It, a great choice in my opinion. And ended with Take It Or Leave It, classic. A few seconds in, Julian said "I got distracted" and on account of Nikolai's later on tweets ("Beautiful sunset, beautiful breasts and beautiful crowd!! Thank you Bonnaroo. You were awesome!" and then his "Just to clarify: the sunset, the crowd and the braless girls on their friends' shoulders... It's not sleazy. They were just livin' free!") I'm assuming he got distracted by a topless girl. The set was awemazing! Of course there were songs I wish they had played *COUGH MACHU PICHU COUGH* but the fact that every song they did play sounded a zillion times better than normal (NOT saying its normally bad but you know what I mean...) was just as good :)
Julian was also super stoked that he saw Beirut. In some interview (I can't remeber which one but it's on youtube) when asked his favorite band at the moment, Julian answered Beirut, so I can see why he'd be happy to see them.
The jacket was so close to coming off!!! But no, Julian withholds his camel title. None of the other bandmates even began the show with a jacket! Someday, I know that jacket shall come off. Maybe it was the super expensive jacket he mentioned in his Shortlist interview... I feel like yes.
I've downloaded the performance in it's 16 parts from youtube (shoutout to GamewithaJ, you've made a lot of Strokes fans happy) and edited them together to create the entire show! However my computer is being extremely annoying and not allowing me to upload it ::(( It shall be up soon though with pictures too :)

Here's the setlist from yesterday:
  1. Is This It
  2. Reptilia
  3. Under Cover of Darkness
  4. Hard To Explain
  5. Someday
  6. Taken for a Fool
  7. You Only Live Once
  8. You're So Right
  9. What Ever Happened?
  10. Gratisfaction
  11. New York City Cops
  12. Life Is Simple in the Moonlight
  13. Juicebox
  14. Last Nite
  15. Under Control
  16. Take It Or Leave It

Wow! So great

Hello readers,

Some of you may have noticed that on Thursday, Google had a guitar game on their homepage. Some very cool people took advantage of this situation

Enjoy! Don't forget tomorrow's Bonnaroo! The Strokes will be playing 6:45pm EST and 3:45pm PDT. If anyone's able to record the entire performance somehow, please do!

Strokes comeback anniversary!

Hello readers,
Today is a very special day! Exactly one year ago, it was the Strokes Vension show at Dingwalls in London. It was their first show after a 5 year break. Twas a very joyous day in the land of Strokes fandom. Tickets for the show were in such high demand that the same night they went on sale, half the internet in the UK crashed. The concert was madness, I really really wish I was there. Apparently, it was very cramped and everyone there was a huge fan, sounds like heaven. It was very hot from all the energy and dancing, yet Julian kept his leather jacket on, what a camel.

Here are some pictures from the event.

Let's celebrate!

BFD pictures

Hello readers,
Here are some cool pictures from the Strokes BFD performance

 And my personal favorite:

BFD performance

Hello readers,
The Strokes BFD performance on Sunday was AWESOME!!! It was very similar to their KROQ show in terms of their setlist (they added NYC cops) and their outfits (I think Albert was the only one who changed, unless they just have a closet full of the same clothing).

Julian's chatter between songs was hilarious.
Here's him talking about how it's not a radio concert unless there's a giant beach ball

Here are some clips of songs at the show

Reptillia

Hard to Explain

Under Control

NYC Cops

Last Nite

 You Only Live Once

Yay News

Hello readers,
Sadly, today's post must be short (BUT SWEET) as I'm a little low on time. So lets make it awesome as possible, ya? YA!

To begin, I am pissing myself with excitement for the new Strokes music video, Taken for a Fool. Nikolai and Julian have been tweeting pictures on set and it looks AWEMAZING!!

I can tell just from the platform this video is gonna be DOPE!!!

Multiple Nick Valensis? Multiple Nikolai Fraitures? Multiple Albert Hammond Jrs? YES PLEASE

Nikolai's dressing room. You're a star Nikolai, you're a star.

Can't wait!!

In other GREAT news, there will be a stream of the Strokes at Bonnaroo this Sunday. I'm having some trouble finding the times as time zones are a bitch, but stay tuned. Here's the link for the stream, it's on Vevo
http://www.vevo.com/channel/bonnaroo/157/Videos

So pretty much the best thing ever happened: the Strokes newsletter came! You can subscribe to it (it's through email) on their website. It's only sent out every so often, so it's a real treat when it occurs. In the latest, the Strokes talked about their release of Taken for a Fool as a single, which is coming out on 7" vinyl accompanied with a B-side. The music video should be out within the month!!!!!!!! YAYAYAY!!!!! You can view the newsletter here:
http://sony-m.neolane.net/nl/jsp/m.jsp?c=5dfec4116be54f1b03

I will be creating an entire BFD post, but for now, Here's an interview with Nikolai, in which he confesses to be a Snoop Dog fan. I love you Nikolai <3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntfbX7GP1F8&feature=youtu.be

That's all for today. I promise BFD will be up before Bonnaroo!

OMG BIG NEWS WOW

Hello readers,

GET STOKED!!!!! Its official, confirmed as of Today by Ryan Gentles and Nikolai Fraiture, There will be a TAKEN FOR A FOOL MUSIC VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yay!!! Wow I can't wait!!!!
It will be directed by Laurent Briet. Although I wish Warren Fu did everything media-wise for the Strokes, I can't complain: They're making a new video!!!

I promise to have a BFD review post with pictures and videos as soon as my computer allows me do so. Technology can be so fickle.

more cool KROQ stuff

Hello readers,
Sorry readers but it seems like it might be a while before I can get the KROQ weenie roast videos up. I've been trying to post the videos but it's been so bloody disfunctional. Anyways, I promised a post a day and the show must go on. Here are some SUPER cool pictures from KROQ weenie roast.
